Michael Malcolm
Founder, Chairman & Chief Executive Officer
Michael Malcolm previously founded two California-based public companies: Network Appliance, Inc. (NASDAQ:NTAP), and CacheFlow Inc. Network Appliance pioneered the concept of network-attached storage appliances, and is now recognized as the leading developer and manufacturer of these high-performance network filers. Malcolm served as president and chief executive officer (CEO) of Network Appliance until 1994. CacheFlow, Inc. also created a new category: Internet caching appliances. Malcolm acted as chairman and CEO of CacheFlow until 1999. Prior to founding Network Appliance, Malcolm spent five years as a technical and business advisor to senior executives at Auspex Systems, Sun Microsystems, Quantum Corporation, Tandem Computers, and various venture capital firms. Before that, he served five years as chairman and CEO of Canada's Waterloo Microsystems, Inc.
Malcolm holds Ph.D. and master's degrees in computer science from Stanford University, and bachelor's and master's degrees in mechanical engineering from the University of Denver. As a tenured associate professor of computer science at the University of Waterloo, he directed one of the most prominent research projects in Canada. Malcolm holds numerous U.S. and foreign patents in computing and computer networking.
Cheena Srinivasan
Founder, Chief Operating Officer
Cheena Srinivasan has over twenty years of experience in high-tech product marketing, fourteen of which were acquired at early-stage start-up companies. Most recently, Srinivasan served as the vice president of marketing and worldwide sales development at Mirapoint, a private company that designs and manufactures dedicated Internet messaging appliances for service providers. His responsibilities included new product launches, partner relationships, sales operations, major account relationships, and venture financing. Prior to that, Srinivasan was the director of enterprise marketing at Network Appliance when the company's annual revenues grew from $2 million to over $200 million. Srinivasan began his career at Sun Microsystems spending the majority of his six-year tenure leading the product marketing activities for the company's file server product line.
Srinivasan holds a master's degree in management from the Sloan School of Management at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), and a master's degree in operations research, also from MIT. He earned his bachelor's degree with high honors in industrial engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology.
David Aune
Vice President, Customer Operations
David has more than twenty-six years of management experience helping companies develop and implement strategies to deliver a remarkable customer experience. He brings a unique background to his position having led customer service and marketing organizations at both large and startup companies in the computer and software industries. Formerly, David was Vice President of Marketing and Customer Support at FileMaker, Inc (formerly Claris, Inc.), a software subsidiary of Apple Computer. While there, he led the company's many innovative support improvements. David has also held technical management positions at Ungermann-Bass, Inc. and Hewlett-Packard Company. He was named Support Executive of the Year for 1997 by the Association of Support Professionals for his industry leadership.
Aune holds a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering from the University of Mississippi.
Tom Geisler
Vice President, Finance
Tom Geisler has over twenty-three years of business experience, of which the last nineteen were in finance and accounting. Most recently, Geisler served as corporate controller at PalmSource, Inc., a public company that develops and markets the Palm OS, a leading operating system powering mobile information devices. Prior to that, Geisler held a number of management positions of increasing responsibility at PalmSource's predecessors -- Palm, 3Com and US Robotics, as well as NCR Corporation. Geisler began his career as a systems engineer in 1982 with Gearhart Industries, Inc., which was later acquired by Halliburton Company.
Geisler holds a master's degree in business administration in finance from Indiana University's Kelley School of Business, a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from the University of Dayton and is a certified management accountant.
John Lio
Vice President, Manufacturing
John Lio has over twenty-two years of experience in electronic product design and manufacturing in the embedded control, professional video and irrigation industries. Having worked at several successful start-up companies, Lio most recently served as the general manager of the Controls Manufacturing Division at Rain Bird, a privately held company and the largest manufacturer for the worldwide irrigation industry. His responsibilities included new product design, the development of innovation strategies for diverse business units, plant operations in Tijuana Mexico, and OEM manufacturing relationships in China and Europe. Prior to Rain Bird Lio was executive vice president/COO for ZF Micro Devices, a Silicon Valley startup that introduced the first PC-based system-on-a-chip to the embedded control market. Lio also worked at Scitex Digital Video/ImMIX as part of the management team that introduced the first desktop non-linear digital post production editing system to the professional video editing industry.
Lio brings to Kaleidescape a combination of product development and manufacturing experience working primarily in partnership with contract manufacturers to deliver high quality electronic products to diverse markets.
Lio holds bachelor and master's degrees in electrical engineering from Stanford University.
Ivan Maltz
Vice President, Engineering
Ivan Maltz has over twenty-six years experience developing innovative video systems and applications. Most recently, Maltz served as VP of Engineering for VideoEgg, a Web 2.0 startup providing video hosting services for social networks. Prior to that, Maltz was VP of Engineering for the Pinnacle division of Avid. As a founding member of Pinnacle's consumer division, he was the architect of Pinnacle Studio, the leading PC-based consumer video editor. Earlier, Maltz developed a series of broadcast graphic and animation products for the Grass Valley Group.
Maltz received a master of science in computer science from University of California, Berkeley and a bachelor of science in applied mathematics and economics from the State University of New York at Stony Brook.
Stephen Watson
Chief Technology Officer
Stephen Watson holds a Ph.D. in pure mathematics from the University of Toronto. He has been a professor of mathematics at York University in Toronto since 1983 and has held visiting positions in 14 countries around the globe. He has authored over a hundred research articles and is a frequent conference speaker.
Watson brings state-of-the-art mathematical skills to Kaleidescape, using techniques drawn from the diverse fields of combinatorics, algebra, analysis, and logic. Since joining Kaleidescape in January 2002, he has led the development of the patented Kaleidescape content security technology. He is also named as an inventor of more than 30 patents or patent applications in Kaleidescape's many areas of innovation.
