Control Systems
Kaleidescape provides modules, templates and IR codes for integrating controllers, keypads, touch panels and IR remotes with a Kaleidescape System.
Please refer to the Kaleidescape System Control Protocol Reference Manual for implementing support for other control systems or extending support of Kaleidescape provided modules.
Touch panel controls are an integral part of the Kaleidescape Experience. We invest extensively in touch panel user interface design - as we do in the Kaleidescape System's onscreen display - to ensure consistent and intuitive navigation. Kaleidescape provides a control module for use with AMX Netlinx processors. This module supports standalone touch panels (SATP), touch panels used with an onscreen display (OSD), and keypad controls. A single instance of the module can control every Player in the Kaleidescape System via either RS-232 or TCP/IP control.
Additionally, touch panel templates are provided for touch panels that have video capabilities and are controlling an OSD (OSD-VIDEO), touch panels that have no video capabilities and are controlling an OSD (OSD-NOVIDEO), and finally touch panels that are not controlling an OSD (standalone touch panels - SATP).
For complete information on touch panel design and how to program AMX controls with the Kaleidescape AMX module and AMX NetLinx Studio, including step-by-step instructions for programming a sample installation, please refer to Kaleidescape AMX Programming Reference Manual.

Touch panel controls are an integral part of the Kaleidescape Experience. We invest extensively in touch panel user interface design – as we do in the Kaleidescape System’s onscreen display – to ensure consistent and intuitive navigation. There are now three modules (macros) for controlling the Kaleidescape System with a Crestron controller: the onscreen display module (OSD), the standalone touch panel control module (SATP) and the keypad module. All use either RS-232 or TCP/IP for control.
Additionally, touch panel templates are provided for touch panels that have video capabilities and are controlling an OSD, touch panels that have no video capabilities and are controlling an OSD, and finally touch panels that are not controlling an OSD (standalone touch panels – SATP).
For complete information on touch panel design and how to program Crestron controls with Kaleidescape modules and Crestron's SIMPL program, including a step-by-step set of programming instructions for a sample installation, please refer to Kaleidescape Crestron Programming Reference Manual.

Logitech
Kaleidescape works with Logitech to ensure that Kaleidescape Movie Player controls are available in their Harmony online database.
Kaleidescape controls are filed under the following:
Device Category: DVD
Device Type: DVD
Manufacturer: Kaleidescape
Model Number: KPlayer-2500
Note that the KPlayer-2500 and KPlayer-2000 use identical IR commands.
Kaleidescape provides IR codes and templates for Philips remote controls and ProntoScript modules for Philips™ Pronto TSU9600 and TSU9400 controllers.
The Kaleidescape ProntoScript modules for Philips Pronto TSU9600 and TSU9400 contain all the software and graphical templates needed to control any Kaleidescape Player. The ProntoScript modules support two control modes: an onscreen display (OSD) mode for controlling a Kaleidescape Player connected to a display device, and a standalone touch panel (SATP) mode for controlling music playback on a Kaleidescape Player without reference to an OSD or on a Kaleidescape Music Player.
For complete information and step-by-step directions on integrating the Philips Pronto TSU9600 and TSU9400 with a Kaleidescape System, please refer to the Kaleidescape Programming Manual for Philips Pronto Controllers
For a quick guide on controlling a Kaleidescape Player with a Pronto controller, please refer to the TSU9600 Reference Guide or the TSU9400 Reference Guide

Kaleidescape works with Universal Remote Control to ensure that their device database contains Kaleidescape Movie Player controls. Depending on the specific remote being used, you may be able to provide 1-button access to Kaleidescape specific features.
PC programmable
All Home Theater Master and Professional series remotes that are PC programmable can utilize Universal Remote Control’s downloaded library. This library contains several 1-button Kaleidescape commands – such as single-touch access to the Movie List, Favorite Scene controls, Intermission, etc. Kaleidescape is listed in their library under AUX.
Additionally, any of the Kaleidescape codes may be loaded to any of these remotes using the Universal Browser feature within the Editor software. The Universal Browser can open up a CCF file and allows you to drag and drop the IR codes from the CCF file into any button.

Learning
For learning remotes, there are two options. Since Kaleidescape’s code set is an extension to the Toshiba code set, programming the remote as if it were controlling a Toshiba DVD player will allow that remote to control a Kaleidescape Player. This will result in a good general-purpose remote, but one that lacks Kaleidescape specific commands. If you have access to a device that can generate these commands (such as a PC programmable remote), you can use that device as a source remote to learn the additional Kaleidescape specific commands.
Pre-programmed
For pre-programmed remotes, simply set up the remote as if it were controlling a Toshiba DVD player.
For complete information on how to program URC handheld devices for the Kaleidescape System, please refer to Kaleidescape Universal Remote Control Programming Reference Manual.
A Kaleidescape Player can be controlled with just about any universal remote. Depending on the capabilities of the remote, control may be simple 1-button actions to get to specific places in the Kaleidescape OSD, or may be more general require multiple button presses to get to a specific place.
Remotes generally fall into three broad categories: PC Programmable, Learning, and Pre-programmed.
PC Programmable
These remotes are generally the better models, where some software is provided by the remote’s manufacturer to program the remote using a computer. Many of these programs allow you to import IR codes in hex format – usually copying and pasting the codes into a text box. The following text file has all IR codes available from Kaleidescape in this hex format.
(Download: IR_hex_codes)
Occasionally, the remote’s configuration program will import Pronto’s old CCF file format. The following file contains all IR codes available from Kaleidescape in the CCF file format.
(Download: TS1000.ccf)
Learning
For learning remotes, there are two options. Since Kaleidescape’s code set is an extension to the Toshiba code set, programming the remote to “control” a Toshiba DVD player will allow that remote to control a Kaleidescape Player. This will result in a good general-purpose remote, but one that lacks Kaleidescape specific commands. If you have access to a device that can generate these commands (such as a PC programmable remote), you can use that device as a source remote to learn the additional Kaleidescape specific commands.
Pre-programmed
For pre-programmed remotes, simply set up the remote to “control” a Toshiba DVD player.
The Kaleidescape System can be controlled from a Java-enabled web browser, allowing almost any computer to control any Kaleidescape Player. This interface can emulate both the standalone touch panel (SATP) and the onscreen display touch panel (OSD-No Video) control experiences.
Web Tablet Interface
Any Windows web tablet can be turned into a dedicated Kaleidescape controller with the WebTablet-Setup program. This program creates the appropriate shortcuts to use Microsoft's Internet Explorer for Windows to access the Java control panels of the Kaleidescape Players.
