How to Bookmark a Scene

  • On June 19, 2018

While Kaleidescape’s Movie Guide team does a great job of bookmarking some of the most iconic scenes from movies, there will likely come a time where you or your customers will want to bookmark favorite scenes of your own. Fortunately, this is very simple to do, and can be done in a variety of ways.

Using a Handheld Remote Control

Scenes can be created using the Kaleidescape remote control, or any other control system that can control the Kaleidescape player. While the movie is playing, press the “Info” button and then scroll across the list of options until you get to the “New Scene” option.

Once you press Enter on the “Set Start of New Scene” tab, you will be shown this screen. If the scene will be long, you can fast forward and even chapter skip to the part of the film you want to make the end point.

After the scene is complete it will appear as a “New Scene” on your list. You can change the start and end of a scene as many times as you like while it is unnamed. (Just set the start point, stop, play the new scene to make sure you have the start point you want, then set the end point.) After you have named the scene, the start and end will be locked into place.

Once you set the end location, click the “Save New Scene” choice and you will be presented with an onscreen keyboard for naming the scene. Once you click “Done” on the keyboard, the scene will be saved and added chronologically to your list of scenes.

Using the iPad Control App

When the movie is playing, expand the control bar located at the bottom of the screen in the Kaleidescape iPad control app, to the right of the transport controls. This will bring up a Create Scene bar. Simply press “Set Start” at the beginning point, and then “Set End” at the end point. Once you’ve created the desired scene, pressing “Save” will open a keyboard on the iPad and prompt you to name the new scene.

A small heart icon differentiates user-created scenes from the ones bookmarked by Kaleidescape. Once you’ve created and saved a scene, you can delete it using the More Options option in the onscreen display.

On the app, open the movie and select the “Play Scene” option. This will show all of the available scenes. Press the “Edit” tab and it will give you the option of selecting and deleting any scenes you no longer want, or to rename any scene.

Using an Advanced Control System (e.g., Control4)

If you will be regularly bookmarking scenes and you have an advanced control system like Control4, you can program some buttons on the remote to quickly start and stop scene bookmarking. In this example, the Green button on a Control4 system has been programmed to set the start point, and the Red button has been programmed to set the end point. Once the set end point button is pressed, the scene is immediately added to the scene list with a generic name like “New Scene”. To edit the name, use the iPad app as described above.
