Against All Odds
When the odds are stacked against you, it becomes much harder to succeed. Add in an abusive warden, infected mutants, and a rage-filled brother—it must be near impossible to make it. This week’s featured collection, “Against All Odds” is filled with all kinds of inspirational stories of redemption.
The Shawshank Redemption (Warner Bros., 1994)
Nominated for seven Oscars, one of the most compelling movies of all time was The Shawshank Redemption starring Tim Robbins, Morgan Freeman & Bob Gunton. The main character Andy Dufrense (Robbins) is sentenced to life for a murder he claims he did not commit.
While in prison Andy meets Red (Freeman) and many other inmates whose lives are forever changed by their interactions with Andy. However it’s not all beaches and sun for Andy as he must deal with a corrupt, abusive Warden (Gunton) and figure out what the rest of his life is going to look like.
In the words of Mr. Dufrense, “Get busy living, or get busy dying.”
Find out if Andy makes it out– dead or alive.
I Am Legend (Warner Bros., 2007)
I Am Legend is a science-fiction horror film that pits the main character Dr. Robert Neville (Will Smith) against deadly monsters, a ticking clock and worst of all, he’s all alone. He is willing to fight to the death to find a cure to the virus that has taken his family, his life and transformed mankind into monsters.
This remake will keep you at the edge of your seat and have you rooting for Smith as he searches desperately for a cure or any other survivor.
Join in on the fight for humanity!
Warrior (Lionsgate, 2011)
In Warrior, two brothers (Tom Hardy & Joel Edgerton) separated at an early age, are on a collision course with each other in an MMA tournament. Nick Nolte also makes an appearance as the brother’s recovering alcoholic father/trainer.
Hardy needs to use the prize money to support his deceased friend’s family and Edgerton needs it to provide for his own struggling wife and children. Which brother will be able to overcome his past and bring stability to his loved ones? Will they be able to mend their own relationships?
