HDMI CEC Frequently Asked Questions

Initial HDMI CEC support was introduced for Strato V, E, and M in kOS 10.23.0. With the release of kOS 26.0.0, the following functionality has been added or improved:

  • Standby synchronization settings
  • Volume control via the mobile app

Standby Synchronization

HDMI CEC support is disabled by default. When HDMI CEC is enabled, users have the ability to control the standby synchronization behavior between the Strato and connected HDMI devices. The options are as follows:

  • Synchronize standby between player and connected HDMI devices (default)
  • Player controls standby of connected HDMI devices
  • Connected HDMI devices control player standby
  • Do not synchronize standby

Synchronize standby between player and connected HDMI devices

This is the default behavior when enabling HDMI CEC support on Strato V, E, and M players. In this mode, HDMI CEC power on/off commands will be sent to connected HDMI devices when the player is put into standby and the player will respond to external HDMI CEC power commands sent by those connected devices.

Frequently Asked Questions

Ensure that the correct standby synchronization setting has been selected in the player’s HDMI CEC settings. Refer to the tables above for more details.
Some displays (for example, LG displays) must be configured to power on to the most recently used input for the display to turn on when the Strato leaves standby.

HDMI CEC support for color keys.

Some display remotes include four color buttons. In kOS these buttons have been mapped to HDMI CEC commands as follows:

  • Blue:
    • OSD: Activates the Kaleidescape Menu
    • Playback: Activates the status overlay
    • Equivalent to KEY_DISC_OR_KALEIDESCAPE_MENU IR command
  • Red:
    • OSD & Playback: Operates as a "Back" button
    • Equivalent to KEY_BACK IR command
  • Green:
    • OSD: Activates the Kaleidescape Menu
    • Playback: Activates the status overlay
    • Equivalent to KEY_DISPLAY_INFORMATION_OR_MENU IR command
  • Yellow:
    • OSD: Initiates a Library or OSD Store search depending on which place is active
    • Playback: No effect
    • Equivalent to KEY_SHOW_SEARCH IR command

NOTE: Some display devices may require additional settings tweaks to enable support for these commands. For example, on Samsung displays, you may need to enable the "Input Settings Plus" feature on the HDMI port to which the Strato is connected.
