How can we help you?

How do I disable the Internet connection to my Kaleidescape System when my yacht is at sea (to reduce traffic)?

A Kaleidescape System uses its Internet connection to download information about movies and music, download software updates and upload diagnostic information.

On a yacht, Internet access via satellite can be expensive. The Internet connection to your Kaleidescape System can be disabled to reduce operating expenses. If you would like to prevent your Kaleidescape System from connecting to the Internet while at sea, read the following warnings before proceeding.

  • Ensure that the owner of the Kaleidescape System and other users are aware that lack of a connection to the Internet will stop the download of guide information and software updates as well as system alerts, such as problems with disk cartridges. This will result in missing guide information for new content added to the system or for content played from the tray, or slot.
  • On a Premiere System, confirm that the server(s) is operating normally and is not degraded. If the front panel of the server or the indicator on any disk cartridge is amber, do not proceed with these instructions. Contact your Authorized Kaleidescape Dealer immediately.

When ready to proceed, follow the procedure outlined below. On a Strato system, the network settings can be configured from both the on-screen user interface and the browser interface. On a Premiere system, the network settings must be configured from the browser interface. On Cinema One (2nd generation), the network settings must be configured in the on-screen user interface.

On-screen User Interface

1. Press the Menu button on the Kaleidescape remote, or press Menu on the Remote Control page of the Kaleidescape iPad app, or press the Kaleidescape logo in the top left corner of a touch panel using a Kaleidescape control template.

2. Use the arrow keys to highlight System, then select Settings. The Settings page appears.

3. Highlight Network and make note of the current settings.

4. Change the Default Gateway to an invalid address. Make sure that no device on the network is assigned the invalid address.
  • If the top choice on the right is Change the static IP configuration, select it and change the Default Gateway to an invalid address. For example, if the real default gateway is 192.168.1.1, set aside 192.168.1.2 for use as your invalid address.
  • If the bottom choice on the right is Set static IP configuration, select it and assign the following values.
    • IP Address: Assign a static IP address making sure it is outside the DHCP range, and is not conflicting with another device on the network.
    • Subnet Mask: Enter the network's subnet mask, which is normally the same as noted in step 3.
    • Default Gateway: Enter an invalid address. For example, if the real default gateway is 192.168.1.1, set aside 192.168.1.2 for use as your invalid address.
    • Preferred DNS Server: Enter the network's primary DNS Server, which is normally the same as noted in step 3.
    • Preferred Secondary DNS Server: Enter the network's secondary DNS Server, which is normally the same as noted in step 3.
5. Once the settings are correctly entered, select Accept these settings. The Static IP Configuration window will be dismissed.

6. The new network settings will take effect shortly. There is no need to restart.

Browser Interface
The browser interface must be accessed from a device connected to the same local network as the Kaleidescape system.

1. Open a web browser and enter: 2. Select the Settings tab.

3. From the second row of tabs, select Components if not already selected.

4. Click the Settings button to the right of the server. A new window appears.

5. By default, the NETWORK tab should be selected. If it is not, select it now.

6. Change the Default Gateway to an invalid address. Make sure that no device on the network is assigned the invalid address.
  • If "Use the following IP configuration" is selected, change the Default Gatewayto an invalid address. For example, if the real default gateway is 192.168.1.1, set aside 192.168.1.2 for use as your invalid address.
  • If "Obtain IP Configuration automatically using DHCP" is selected, click "Use the following IP configuration" and assign the following values:
    • IP Address: Assign a static IP address making sure it is outside the DHCP range, and is not conflicting with another device on the network.
    • Subnet Mask: Enter the network's subnet mask, which is normally the same subnet mask listed under "Current Network Configuration"
    • Default Gateway: Enter an invalid address. For example, if the real default gateway is 192.168.1.1, set aside 192.168.1.2 for use as your invalid address.
    • Preferred DNS Server: Enter the network's primary DNS Server, which is normally the Preferred DNS Server listed under "Current Network Configuration".
    • Preferred Secondary DNS Server: Enter the network's secondary DNS Server, which is normally the Secondary DNS Server listed under "Current Network Configuration".
7. Click OK to be returned to the Components page.

8. Click the Restart button to the right of the server to reboot the server and have the new (invalid) Default Gateway address take effect.

When the yacht is in port and connected to a land-based (lower cost) Internet connection, it will be necessary that you reverse this process, setting the correct Default Gateway to reestablish Internet connectivity. Remember to restart the server or player/server so that diagnostic information can be uploaded and guide information and software updates can be downloaded. When you return to sea, set the Default Gateway to the invalid address to again to disable the Internet connection.

NOTE: Strato systems do not support music.
