How do I reconfigure an older movie player for multichannel audio over HDMI?

Since the release of kOS 3.7 in early 2009, all Kaleidescape players with an HDMI output are capable of supporting multichannel audio. However, some older players may need to be reconfigured to enable this feature.

1. Load the browser interface by visiting:
2. Click on the SETTINGS tab.

3. From the second row of selections, click Components.

4. Click the Settings button to the right of the player not outputting multichannel audio over HDMI, and a window will appear.

5. Select the AUDIO tab.

6. In the bottom section of the window, the message "This component is currently configured to send stereo (PCM) audio over the HDMI cable." confirms that the player is not configured to output multichannel audio over HDMI.

7. Click the long hyperlink that says Click here if you want to enable multichannel audio over HDMI support and configure it for the connected audio equipment.

8. Three options will appear.
  1. Select the first radio button if the capabilities of the audio system are correctly reported over HDMI. This option will work with most audio systems.
  2. Select the second radio button if audio is not present or playback is incorrect after trying the first option. The capabilities of the audio system are likely not being reported correctly.
  3. Select the third radio button to configure HDMI as a stereo output. Multichannel audio will not be sent.
NOTE: When a DTS soundtrack is played with this option, silence will be sent over HDMI. DTS soundtracks are not played on stereo outputs.

9. Select OK to save changes.

The player does not need to be restarted, but any playbacks must be stopped and restarted for audio changes to take effect.
