Mini Terra Prime Quick Start Guide

Setting up a Mini Terra Prime Server

Kaleidescape Mini Terra Prime - Back

  1. Connect the wired network. A 2.5-gigabit Ethernet connection is recommended for maximum performance. Gigabit ethernet is required as a minimum.
  2. Connect the power supply. A surge protector is recommended. Please wait a few minutes for the server to start.
  3. Open the Kaleidescape mobile app for a guided setup, or continue with one of the options below...
    • (OR) If installing with a *new* Strato V/E/M: Use the player’s onscreen menu to Set up this player as a new system....
If your new server isn’t on the Join System screen, ensure the player’s software version is 10.22.0 or higher and both are on the same network subnet.
    • (OR) If installing with existing Strato V/E/M or Terra server(s): Add your new Terra to your system: From a web browser on the same network, go to http://my-kaleidescape.local/components
You should see a list of components in your existing system. If not, click “Connect to another system” at the top of the page to see all systems. Click the desired system, then navigate to the Settings, Components page.

Click Add a Component and choose your new Terra from the pop-up window.
Note that when grouping with a standalone Strato player, the local storage will be deactivated and movies deleted, requiring redownload.

Congratulations! Your Mini Terra Prime server enables features not available on standalone Strato players:

  • Create your own collections
  • Movie List and Movie Covers places are accessible from Menu
  • You can manage your local movie collection from a web browser
  • Movies will not be deleted automatically

For Best Experience

Keep this server cool. Downloads will slow down if too hot. Caution messages are displayed when this happens. Mini Terra Prime is cooled via natural convection for silent operation. There are no internal fans.

  • Max ambient temperature is 95°F(35°C) but below 86°F(30°C) is recommended
  • Place in an area with circulating air
  • Don’t stack on hot devices like receivers and other servers
  • If stacking, place the Terra on the top
  • If placing in a rack, we recommend leaving 1RU above the server if possible
  • Don’t put anything on top of the unit that blocks the vents

Connect to fast Internet. 4K movie downloads in ~4 minutes are possible if all equipment and ISP connections are 2.5Gbps rated AND your ISP does not throttle connections.

Router Quality of Service (QoS) settings may cause slow downloads. Try adjusting these if there are issues.

Adjust the blue glow brightness from a web browser. Use the Front Panel Lights drop down to brighten/dim/turn off. From a web browser on the same network, go to http://my-kaleidescape.local/components

Use the included Ethernet cable. If using your own Ethernet cable, use Cat6 and avoid shielded Ethernet cables unless only a single end is connected to the shield. Connect the unconnected (floating) side to the server. Shielded cables with both ends connected to the shield will couple the noisy network ground planes to the A/V equipment.

Keep the network cable length to 10’ (3m) or less. If longer is required, insert a network switch between the server and long cable. This will reduce electrical noise and protect against damaging surges.
