Strato K Quick Start Guide

Setting up a Kaleidescape Strato K movie player

Strato K Rear Panel

  1. Connect the wired network. Use an unshielded Cat5e cable or better. A Gigabit connection is required.
If a wired network is unavailable, consider a Wi-Fi bridge or powerline/coax adapters when operating this player standalone (not connected to a server).
  2. Use Ultra High Speed HDMI cables to HDMI 2.1 inputs that support 8K@30Hz along the entire HDMI path.
Ensure 8K signal input is enabled in the TV’s settings. Often called “Enhanced format (8K)” or “Input Signal Plus”. Refer to the TV’s manual.
  3. Connect the power supply. A surge protector is recommended. Please wait for the player to start.
  4. Follow the onscreen instructions and confirm your network settings. Choose Continue.
  5. If installing without a server:
Choose Set up this player as a standalone player.
    Choose Begin activation.
The email used to activate your account will receive all communications from Kaleidescape.
If applicable, use your current Kaleidescape account email so your existing Kaleidescape library can be downloaded to this new system. If you don’t see an email after 5 minutes, check spam.

(OR) If grouping with existing Terra server(s):
choose Add this player as a new zone... select the system to join.

(OR) If grouping with new Terra server(s): choose Set up this player as a new system... and follow the onscreen instructions.
If the Terra servers don’t appear on the player’s Join System screen, ensure their software version is 26.1.0 or higher, and they are on the same network subnet as the player. Power cycle the internet connected server to upgrade.

For Best A/V Experience

HDMI Cables:

  • Use HDMI Ultra certified cables. Obey cable bend rules.
  • Use active cables for lengths beyond 15’ (5m). Ensure they are 24Gbps bandwidth or higher (FRL3) without compression.

Update all device firmware in the HDMI path (AVR etc, and display) for stable 8K Fixed Rate Link (FRL) connections. Maintain connections to the internet for auto-updates.

Audio Routing: Connect HDMI directly to the audio equipment (OR) connect to displays that support spatial audio decode, using eARC back to the audio equipment. Older ARC connections degrade the audio.
SPDIF 2CH LPCM ports are digital 2 channel PCM (up to 96KHz/24-bit). Audio Output must be set to “PCM Stereo” to activate these.

Enable HDMI-CEC from the Browser Interface (see bottom) to use other connected device remotes for navigation, volume, and power control.

Connect an audio ground wire from the rear ground screw to the GND Terminal of the connected AVR or the electrical strip the audio equipment is plugged into. This prevents audible hums and white noise.

Avoid shielded Ethernet cables. They can cause audible noise from the speakers by coupling strong digital interference into the system.

Keep the network cable length to 10’ (3m) or less. If longer is required, insert a network switch between the player and long cable. This will reduce electrical noise and protect the player from damaging surges.

Refer to the support guide Getting the Most out of your Strato for tips and additional details on optimizing your Strato, HDMI video path and display. See: https://support.kaleidescape.com/article/Getting-the-Most-out-of-Strato

Calibrate your display using the PictureCheck and ISF titles found in the “Special Interest” genre of the Kaleidescape store. Go to https://www.kaleidescape.com/pdfs/kaleidescape-picturecheck.pdf for more.
