What RS-232 pinout should be used when building a cable to connect to a Premiere system component?

Kaleidescape Premiere system components with a serial port act as an RS-232 DTE (Data Terminal Equipment) device. Servers and M-Class movie players support data rates up to 115,200, while other movie players support data rates up to 57,600. The default baud rate for a Premiere movie player is 19,200; the default for servers is 115,200.

A Kaleidescape Cinema One (1st generation) changes its baud rate during the boot process. Initially, the Cinema One reports diagnostic messages from the serial port at a baud rate of 115,200 (like a server). Later in the boot process, the baud rate changes to 19,200 (or whatever baud rate has been selected in the browser interface) as the serial port is used for player control and feedback messages.

To connect a Premiere component to a computer or to most AMX and Crestron DB-9 serial ports, use a null-modem cable with female connectors on both ends. "Null" refers to pins 2 and 3 being crossed in the cable (i.e., pin 2 on one end of the cable is connected to pin 3 on the other).  Only pins 2, 3, and 5 are required for communication. Pins 7 and 8 can be added if hardware flow control is used.
