What is EDID?

EDID, or Extended Display Identification Data, is the operational capabilities a downstream HDMI device, like a display or an AV receiver, communicates to a source device like a Kaleidescape player. This includes information such as the brand and model of the downstream device, the video capabilities including the preferred resolution, and the supported audio formats. With this information, the Kaleidescape player can generate a compatible signal without the user having to configure audio and video settings manually and without any compromise in quality. When multiple downstream HDMI devices are present, the EDID from all devices is combined before it arrives at the Kaleidescape player.
